Gov. Chris Christie says electing Republican Ovide Lamontagne as New Hampshire's governor is the only way to ensure the state doesn't end up with an income tax.

Christie joined Lamontagne Tuesday at a private fundraiser in Bedford followed by a tour of the Atrium Medical Corporation in Hudson. He told about 100 workers at the company that Lamontagne has the right experience to be governor, and said after New Jersey adopted an income tax under a Democratic governor, the state endured a decade without job growth.

Lamontagne and Democrat Maggie Hassan are vying to fill the seat opened up by Democratic Gov. John Lynch's retirement. Both have pledged to veto any sales or general income tax.
