Christie campaign unveils its first television ad of 2016

NEWARK (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's presidential campaign is spending nearly half a million dollars airing its first television ad in the early-voting state of New Hampshire.

The ad that starts airing Friday features highlights from Christie's announcement speech in his old high school gym last week. The Republican governor calls for strong American leadership and touts his straightforward style.

A spokeswoman for Christie's campaign said the ad will be shown over the next four weeks on broadcast television in Boston and Manchester, New Hampshire, as well as on cable and radio stations and online.

Christie is staking his campaign on a strong performance in New Hampshire. The state holds the nation's first presidential primary election and typically rewards candidates who invest significant time on the ground.
