Governor Chris Christie is still on pace to crush his Democratic challenger in the gubernatorial election this fall, according to the latest poll from Quinnipiac University.

The Republican incumbent leads State Senator Barbara Buono by 30 points, 59-29, a margin that is virtually unchanged from Quinnipiac's findings in April.

"Christie is just beating the ears off Senator Buono," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

Christie even holds a solid 57-32 percent lead among women.

Nearly 70 percent of New Jersey voters approve of the job Christie is doing. They don't appear to be bothered by the fact that Christie called for a special U.S. Senate election in October, although a solid majority believe the move was purely political.

Democrats have criticized the move, which costs taxpayers millions of dollars. Christie had been quoted saying he wanted to give voters, "a choice and a voice."

The poll also examined the U.S. Senate race, showing that Newark Mayor Cory Booker would crush any Democrat or Republican in his path. The survey was finalized, however, before Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver announced her intentions to run.
