Christie, Buono Will Have Primary Opposition

Governor Chris Christie and State Senator Barbara Buono will likely face primary opponents in their respective campaigns for Governor.

New Jersey StatehouseMonday was the deadline for candidates to file a minimum of 1,000 signatures with the state Division of Elections in order to appear on the primary ballot.

A document released by the Division of Elections shows Christie filed 14,835 signatures while Buono had 9,056.

Only one Republican will challenge Christie in the primary: attorney Seth Grossman of Linwood who submitted 1,336 signatures. He had announced his candidacy for Governor in February and says Christie is not a true conservative.

Five Democrats submitted signatures including William Araujo, a member of the Edison Planning Board, Jeff Boss of Jersey City, a conspiracy theorist whose petitions had the slogan “free college, $14 minimum, dogs allowed,” Troy Webster, an aide to the Mayor of East Orange and former Glen Ridge Mayor Carl Bergmanson.

The primaries will be held  on June 4.
