New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie struck back at accusations that he pressured Senate Republicans not to vote on an open space bill. The measure on Monday fell two votes short of the 24 votes needed to get the question on the November ballot.

Sen. Bob Smith accused Christie of calling Republican legislators over the weekend and "threatening their political lives."

At an event in Little Ferry Tuesday, Christie said it's Smith's fault for not getting enough votes from his own party.

The governor didn't respond to a question on whether he pressured GOP lawmakers.
