Christie’s Former Port Authority Execs Hire Lawyers

Gov. Chris Christie's top two appointees at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey have retained private lawyers in the wake of their resignations.

Former Deputy Executive Director Bill Baroni and another ex-Port Authority executive, David Wildstein, have not been accused of any wrongdoing.

But they are caught in the middle of expanding investigations into just what was behind unannounced lane closings in September on the approach to the George Washington Bridge into New York City. The closings caused massive gridlock.

Democrats claim they were political payback for a Democratic mayor who would not endorse Christie, which Christie has denied.

A legislative committee has subpoenaed documents and emails.

Baroni has retained former Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Himmel. Wildstein has hired Alan Zegas, a criminal lawyer from Chatham.
