Chris Christie’s Court Nominee Stalls Over FBI Files
Gov. Chris Christie's flap with Democrats over judicial nominees continues.
The governor nominated former Monmouth County Sheriff Joseph Oxley to the Superior Court in May.
Democrats have stalled the nomination while waiting for FBI files on Oxley compiled as part of a standard background check.
The files, which were turned over to the State Police, do not have to be given to the Senate Judiciary Committee for review.
Sen. Ray Lesniak of Union County says the public has the right to know the background of all judicial nominees.
FBI informant Solomon Dwek claimed he was tipped off early to foreclosure sales by Oxley. The U.S. Attorney's Office found insufficient evidence to support the claims.
Christie says his nominee deserves a hearing.
