Chris Christie Touts Help Available to Sandy Victims [AUDIO]

With a 40 point lead over Democratic challenger Barbara Buono in the latest polls, Gov. Chris Christie is sticking to a carefully scripted plan this summer – touring areas hard hit by Superstorm Sandy, and reminding folks about the help that’s available to them as the rebuilding continues.“For me it’s going to be about continuing to rebuild the state – that’s going to take up the majority of my time this summer,” said Christie during an event in Moonachie.

He pointed out while Sandy was an awful occurrence, “It also brought out the best in so many of us – we had to stand up with each other and for each other, support our friends and our families and our neighbors.”

Help for Businesses

Christie told those assembled the Stronger New Jersey Business Grant Program can help any business that suffered $5,000 or more in damages from Superstorm Sandy.

“These grants are there for you, even for cash flow and other things to keep you on your feet and moving as you recover from it.  If you had only $5,000 of damage to your business, you’re eligible to apply and I would urge you to do that,” said Christie.

He also stressed the state will offer low-cost loans of up to $5 million starting next month  for businesses that need bigger and more extensive renovations.

Help for Homeowners

There’s also help for New Jersey homeowners.

“We’re going to start with 780 million dollars in grants available to homeowners who need to rebuild, to renovate or to elevate,” said Christie.

He recommended everyone apply for loans and grants by going to the New Jersey Economic Development Authority website.
