Governor Chris Christie is kicking off his 2013 re-election bid alongside members of the Laborers' International Union of North America.

It's a choice that seems to show the Republican seeking to build support among groups that traditionally support Democrats.

While some private-sector labor organizations might be warming to him, Christie has had a cool relationship with public-sector unions like the New Jersey Education Association.

Christie's approval ratings have soared since Superstorm Sandy. Even families with public-sector union members have said he's done a good job.

The event is taking place Tuesday at a training center for Laborers Local 472 in Aberdeen.
