New Jersey's Republican governor has been spending a lot of time lately with prominent Democrats.

Chris Christie's latest event came Wednesday, when he appeared with former Gov. Jim McGreevey at the Hudson County Jail.

In recent weeks, Christie has held events with members of the powerful Democratic organizations in Camden and Essex Counties and even rocker Jon Bon Jovi. The events have dealt with issues where they and the governor have common ground.

Rider University political scientist Ben Dworkin says it's a smart move for a Republican governor in a Democratic state to show he can work with his political adversaries, particularly in an election year.

Monmouth University's Patrick Murray says the remarkable thing isn't that Christie is holding events with Democrats, but that they're embracing him so much.
