Chopped Off Fingers In The News
This story is from Canada, but it caught my attention. The article mentions twice that the worker lost “some” fingers in the meat chopping accident. I would think the number of fingers chopped off would be of great interest to the worker.
He apparently was trying to clear some clogged meat out of the chopper with a hook and got pulled into the blade. A fail safe that should have prevented the gore didn’t work properly, leading to the missing digits. My own grandmother was the victim of a similar workplace accident; she was feeding yarn into an industrial loom when it pulled her hand in, chopping off her index finger. Her middle finger slowly migrated over the years to take a position that made it look like she still had an index finger, but it didn’t seem to affect her much; she was an avid knitter and crocheter until the day she died.
