The children of Ocean Gate police officer Jason Marles have been awarded $10.1 million by an Ocean County jury for the 2010 death of their father.

The Asbury Park Press reports the verdict against Erick P. Uzcategui of Manchester found him solely responsible for Marles death on Thanksgiving Day. Uzcategui is charged with  being under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he rear-ended Marles' Jeep as he was heading home from working a special drunk driving detail.

The jury did not hold the Seaside Heights bar responsible for Marles death in the civil suit.

Uzcategui was convicted of vehicular homicide in 2014 and is serving an eight-year state prison sentence.

The Marles' family lawyer told the newspaper the money will be held in a trust for Marles' two children, age 9 and 11.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
