Authorities have not charged the boy who fired the weapon Friday at the Crestbury Apartments on Hunter Street.

Camden County Prosecutor Warren Faulk says the wounded child was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive. Officials have not said whether the child is a boy or a girl.

WPVI TV reports the 12-year-old was shot in the nasal area and bleeding heavily from the nose but was standing when first responders arrive.

"We have the 11-year-old and the 11-year-old's parents with us, they are fully cooperative. We're trying to get to the bottom of what happened," Chief Scott Thomson of the Camden County Regional Police told WPVI TV.

The investigation is focusing on how the children had access to the handgun. It's the second case of a minor getting a gun and shooting at another child. A 4-year-old child in Toms River shot a 6-year-old in his backyard at the beginning of April.

No names have been released.
