The 10 year-old boy's condition was upgraded to critical but stable on Thursday, following the dog attack inside his father's Newark apartment on Wednesday.

Anthony Ambrose, chief of detectives for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, tells The Star-Ledger (http://bit.ly/LY9xUV ) that the boy's father, 41-year-old Enrique Carrillo, has been arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. He remains in custody in lieu of $75,000 bail. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.

Police responding to the apartment on Wednesday shot the two dogs, killing one, according to Ambrose. The other dog has been placed with the ASPCA.
