Long Branch Police say the unidentified 12 year old boy was pronounced at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch at 1:34PM. An autopsy is pending to determine a cause of death.

The Oakhurst boy was building the tunnel with his younger brother when it collapsed around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday. The boys' mother, who was nearby when the collapse occurred, called 911 and reported her son was covered in sand.

Emergency responders soon dug out the child and performed CPR on the boy, who was unconscious.

Police say he regained consciousness after being taken to a hospital, where he was being treated in the intensive care unit on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, a Long Branch firetruck speeding to the scene hit a man holding an infant at Ocean & Madison Avenues reports the  Asbury Park Press.  The unidentified man suffered non-life threatening injuries while the infant is in a hospital intensive care unit.
