New Jersey has always been known for its great comedians and that tradition continues with Joe Matarese. Joe returns to his hometown of Cherry Hill this Saturday night, July 6th with one show at Sarcasm Comedy Club in the Cherry Hill Crowne Plaza  and Friday July 19th he'll be performing at L’Affaire in Mountainside.

David Letterman describes him as “a funny guy.” Joe and performed on “The Late Show with David Letterman a few times as well as The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Joe also has a Comedy Central special and a webcast called “Fixing Joe” on officialcomedy.com

Matarese has devoted his life to comedy, (along with his wife and 2 children who constantly make their way into his act).  Joe says of himself that, “Comedy was the only thing that I was really interested in besides girls in my early teens. I listened and watch comedy films, sitcoms, and standup comedy any chance I could. I would say I was a comedy nerd. I just loved it! And none of my other friends growing up liked it like I did. I was obsessed, and thought I was weird.”

He still remembers starting out here in New Jersey. “Being from Jersey and starting out in South Jersey in the late 80's definitely made its mark on my standup style. I performed in a ton of loud bars in NJ everyday of the week when I was pursuing my standup dream. You had no choice but to be aggressive on stage or you would just lose the crowd. And you might not get paid your $60. I don't miss those days.”

As for what Matarese would like you to take home from his show ‘I always want the audience to walk away thinking I was the best most unique and original standup comic they've ever seen. I don't want to ever sound like anyone else. I strive to be an original!”
