BASS RIVER TOWNSHIP — Maybe his accent was fake, police say. Maybe it wasn't.

But either way, State Police are seeking a man they say spoke with a British accent during an armed robbery Monday in Bass River.

According to police, on Monday at about 11:25 a.m. on Route 9 and Ash Road, two men in a dark-colored SUV pulled over near a bus stop where a man was waiting, and asked for directions.

While the man was talking with the two people in the SUV, the passenger brandished a black revolver handgun and demanded his money, police said. They said the man handed his wallet, containing about $150 and personal items, over.

The driver was described as a white male in his 30s. The passenger was described as a black male in his mid-to-late 30s who spoke with a British accent.

Commenters on the New Jersey State Police Facebook page noticed an uncanny resemblance between a police composite sketch and a certain basketball mega-start.

"Why Shaq why," Christopher Gaffney wrote.

State Police didn't specify a height in their description of the suspect (Shaquille O'Neal, incidentally, is 7 feet and 1 inch).

Police said the two were in a vehicle that may have been a Hyundai Santa Fe, with tinted windows and damage to the driver's side rear bumper. The vehicle had a white license plate, possibly an NJ temporary tag or an Ohio or North Carolina registration, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the New Jersey State Police Tuckerton Barracks Detective Bureau at (609) 947-3065. Anonymous tips are welcome.

"We would love to compare this amazing composite sketch by Detective I Dennis Cappello with a mug shot after his arrest!" police wrote. "Let's get this done, people! ‪#‎BritishOrNotBritish‬."
