Kellogg's is telling some customers to "L'eggo their Eggos" following a voluntary recall of about 10,000 cases of waffles due to possible listeria contamination.

The Kellogg Company said it's recalling Kellogg’s® Eggo® Nutri-Grain® Whole Wheat Waffles because they have the potential to be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes. No other Eggo products are impacted by this recall, the company announced Monday.

The recall includes 10-count boxes of Nutri-Grain® waffles with "best if used by" dates of Nov. 21 and Nov. 22, 2017. The date code can be found on the side of the package, the company said. The waffles have been sold in several states, including new Jersey.

"The recall is a result of routine tests that the company conducts which identified the potential for contamination. As soon as the company learned of a potential concern, it moved quickly to identify any foods that might be impacted and resolve the issue," the Kellogg Company said in a statement.

So far, no illnesses have been reported as a result of the contamination, but Kellogg's said it has decided to move forward with the recall "as part of its commitment to the health and safety of the people who eat its foods."

According to the Kellogg Company, listeria can cause health problems in young children, elderly people and people with weakened immune systems.

"Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women," the Michigan-based company said.
