CD Players Slowly Fade from New Cars [AUDIO]
The sound inside new cars is undergoing a technological evolution.
Compact disc players are slowing being replaced by smaller, more advanced sources of entertainment, such as thumb drives and iPods and iPhone interfaces with newer vehicles.
“It’s a lot easier now to find a song and then put it on to a device and have that device with you,” said Jim Lardear, a AAA Mid-Atlantic spokesman.
Automotive engineers are giving a thumbs-up to the disappearance of the CD player in dashboards because it frees up space for other technology such as GPS devices and backup camera screens.
If you think the CD is hanging around beyond its time, Lardear said cassettes made popular in the ’90s didn’t disappear completely in cars until 2010.
