year-long survey was recently conducted by The Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester England of the catchiest songs of all time.

The data for this measure of musical mastery was collected from 12,000 participants.

The participants listened to portions of 1000 hit songs from the past 70 years.

The study group had to initially recognize the song, then hum along with the tune and keep humming the song after the audio was intentionally dropped out before the song ended.

Most of the people recognized a song they knew within 5 seconds.
