Tikeemah J. Lassiter, 19, of Clinton was arrested and charged on Saturday with animal cruelty by Newark Police after they were made aware of a video of the incident.  A woman can heard in the short clip laughing as she grabs the cat and launches it onto the sidewalk below along South Orange Street, and then asking if it's dead.

Police said Lassiter was visiting relatives at the time of the incident. She was arrested Saturday.

The cat appeared to bounce upon impact before making a final landing, and moved its head. The cat is "good" and with a vet, according to NJ SPCA spokesman Matt Stanton, who said in an email the cat suffered some minor paw damage.

She was also arrested on an outstanding $10,000 warrant from NJ Transit Police, who say she assaulted a man during a May 18 altercation at Newark Penn Station. She was released on her own recognizance.
