Can you just cut kids loose, financially, at age 18?
In previous years, kids would move out of the house at 18-years-old, and be financially free from their parents. That's a rare sight to see in this day and age.
It's getting costly to start a family today - it takes almost $250,000 to raise a child that was born in 2013. That price doesn't cover college or any expenses your child might have after age 18. Today, kids are moving back in with their parents after they finish college, and are living at home through their late 20's.
Is it possible to cut your kids off at age 18? The struggling economy, tough job market, and the fact that kids today are more sheltered than they used to be all make it hard for parents to let go.
