Camden County prosecutors say 62-year-old Joseph Belfiore, of Bellmawr, was charged Wednesday with theft for allegedly taking $765 in cash while working at Camden City Parking Authority garage on the Camden Waterfront in May 2012.

Prosecutors say Belfiore collected parking fees but failed to submit the proceeds to the authority.

The investigation began after the authority notified police about "suspicious behavior" by Belfiore, who has worked for the agency for 17 years.

Officials say a subsequent investigation determined that Belfiore allegedly stole the funds, based on financial records and other undisclosed evidence.

A telephone number for Belfiore could not be found Wednesday. It wasn't known if he has retained an attorney.
