The Camden County Prosecutor's Office says the girl is in critical but stable condition at Cooper University Hospital and is expected to survive, but could face paralysis. Her name has not been released.

Authorities say 27-year-old Byaer Johnson went to the Camden home where the girl lives on Thursday night. They say he pulled out a handgun and put it on the floor, then shot the girl when he was asked to leave.

Authorities say a 28-year-old man wrestled the gun away from Johnson and shot him in the buttocks.

Johnson is being treated for his injury and is expected to be moved to Camden County Jail.

He is charged with attempted murder and weapons offenses.
