Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain says his "connection to the people" is why he's pulled ahead in some polls.

A new Iowa poll shows Cain leading with 23 percent support, while early front-runner Mitt Romney is at 22 percent.

Cain was asked on CBS' "Face the Nation" whether Romney, who's making his second run for the GOP presidential nomination, was disappointing the party.

Cain said he didn't think that was the case. Cain said he thinks Republicans "are genuinely enthused about what I'm saying and how I'm saying it."

Cain Defends Ad With Smoking Campaign Manager

Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain says the Internet ad featuring his campaign manager smoking conveys a message that he wants to let "people be people."

Cain, a colon cancer survivor, says he doesn't smoke and that the ad wasn't intended to suggest that smoking was cool.

The ad, which has had close to 1 million clicks on Cain's website, features campaign manager Mark Block taking a deep drag from a cigarette and slowly exhaling.

Fellow cancer survivor Bob Schieffer, the moderator of CBS' "Face the Nation," chided Cain for running such an ad and said Cain should raise the level of debate as a top candidate.

Schieffer pressed Cain to urge young people not to smoke, and Cain did that during the interview.

Bachmann Not Worried By 4th Place Iowa Poll Finish

Michele Bachmann says she's not worried that a new Iowa poll puts her fourth among GOP presidential candidates.

But she won a straw poll in the state in August, was born in Iowa and is counting on a strong showing in the January caucuses.

Since the straw poll, the Minnesota congresswoman has struggled in the race, especially after Texas Gov. Rick Perry jumped in. Bachmann once led national public opinion polls, but got only 8 percent support in the new Iowa poll from the Des Moines Register.

Bachmann tells ABC's "This Week" that her campaign is "doing exactly what we need to do." She says she's campaigning heavily in Iowa and isn't worried about "day-to-day snapshots" of the race. She's not saying whether Iowa is a must-win state.
