The Communications Workers of America is holding an event with the Middlesex County Democrat in New Brunswick today.

The union tangled with Gov. Chris Christie over pension and health benefits changes he enacted in 2011 that required greater contributions from workers.

Buono lost her Senate Majority post after arguing that public workers should retain the right to bargain over health benefits. The law that eventually passed suspended bargaining over health care for four years.

Yesterday, Christie received an endorsement from the state's Latino Leadership Alliance, a politically influential coalition of churches, public-service workers and civic groups.

The group backed Democrat Jon Corzine for governor four years ago.
