Sen. Barbara Buono announced policies to benefit women on Tuesday, before hosting a town hall on women's issues in Essex County.

Gov. Chris Christie's opponent says she would fully fund the women's health care and family planning services the governor cut.

She advocates raising the minimum wage, which will go before voters in November.

Buono is the first woman majority leader in the state Senate and the first woman to chair the powerful Senate budget committee.

But she has struggled to raise money or gain traction for her candidacy against Christie.

Public opinion polls show Buono trailing by 20 points, where she lags even among likely women voters.
