According to a poll conducted by NME,

22% of Americans go for Bruce Springsteen as their first choice if they had to name someone to compose a new National Anthem.
Dolly Parton was second favourite to write a replacement track for The Star Spangled Banner as the country music superstar polled 19%.

Also brought into consideration on the poll were Bob Dylan, Jay-Z, Madonna and composer John Williams (the guy who made the epic Jurassic Park theme).

Before I go off on a tangent about the possibility of Bruce Springsteen being touted for this, let me just point out that the thought of having a National Anthem composed and sung by the likes of Madonna and Jay-Z is embarrassing just to think about.

Jay-Z

Jay-Z's anthem would probably be titled, "C.R.E.A.D (Cash Rules Every American's Dream" (Featuring: Beyonce, Blue Ivy Carter, Kanye West, Lil' Wayne and Mary J. Blige). In this hip-hip/gospel fusion, the message of getting that money will be driven home by Jay and Wayne's rap verses, Beyonce's hook and Mary J. Blige singing the bridge. Naturally, Jay-Z and Beyonce's newborn daughter, Blue Ivy will be paid handsomely to cry (which she's just a natural at!) at the end of the song.

Of course, Madonna's version would be a club anthem, probably named "Like A 'Merican". There will be an onslaught of remixes and YouTube covers by Madonna's biggest fans. Madonna's new contribution to American history will mark the end of an era as she finally puts her fake British accent to rest.

Now, Bruce. Bruce Springsteen is one of my favorite performers to ever walk the planet. Songs like "Thunder Road" and "Cadillac Ranch" are some of my most played songs in my iTunes library. As time has gone on, it can't be denied that Springsteen has become more and more displeased with the state of America. His newest album, "Wrecking Ball" is smothered with lyrics that bash the corporate battles and gap between the lower and upper classes.

So, I ask, why do 22% of these voters believe he is the prime candidate to compose the new Anthem? He would turn it into a way to preach his political views on the people. No thank you. The Star Spangled Banner is just fine for now.
