PARAMUS - A pair of Paterson residents were arrested after a police chase that started on local roads in Paramus and ended with the car crashing on the Garden State Parkway.

The Paramus Police Department reported that on Wednesday afternoon, Officer Donald Liu tried stopping a 2000 Audi A4 with New York plates on Route 17 South, when he saw it had a broken brake light. After turning on his lights and sirens, the car drove away and entered the Parkway heading south at Exit 163, police said.

The car, driven by Andre Felix, 18, with his passenger 20-year-old Steven Pena, tried to merge onto Route 80 when the car spun out and hit a guard rail, police said. Felix tried to get the vehicle off of the guard rail, striking Liu's car, police said.

Liu and other officers then put the pair in custody and taken to Paramus Police Headquarters for processing, police said.

Felix was charged with eluding police with a motor vehicle and both were charged with illegal possession of prescription drugs after pills were found in the vehicle, police said. Both men were processed and charged and released without bail.
