Bridgegate panel under pressure

Calls for the Legislative Bridgegate Committee to wrap up or suspend its investigation are growing louder, and those calls are coming from Democrats.

Asm. John Wisniewski, Sen. Loretta Weinberg

With Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Sayreville) showing no signs of letting up, there’s concern in his own party that without a smoking gun, he is validating Republican claims that this process is nothing more than a political witch hunt.

In fact, one top Democrat told me definitively this week that “there is no smoking gun.”

It’s looking more and more possible like Gov. Chris Christie could emerge stronger from the scandal, showing that he took Democrats’ best punch and is still standing.
