Bridge tolls between New Jersey and Pennsylvania to drop

CAMDEN (AP) — Commuters who use four bridges between New Jersey and Pennsylvania could soon pay less in tolls.

The Delaware River Port Authority's finance committee approved a measure Wednesday that would lower tolls for regular users of its four bridges. Commuters who use the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Betsy Ross and Commodore Barry bridges at least 18 times a month would see their toll drop by from $5 to $4 under the proposal.

The credit would apply only to non-commercial passenger vehicles, including motorcycles and small trucks that are 7,000 lbs. and less according to the DRPA. Drivers would have to have a New Jersey EZ Pass.

The move could save motorists $18 a month and more than $200 a year. It would affect about 29,000 drivers.

Officials say the discount would appear as an automatic credit for E-ZPass users.

The proposal goes before the DRPA's board of commissioners on July 15. If passed, it would go into effect later this year.
