Bridge commission planning 1st toll hikes in 15 years
PALMYRA (AP) — Tolls could rise soon for drivers crossing two bridges connecting South Jersey and Pennsylvania.
The Burlington County Bridge Commission is planning hearings this month on the plan to increase the cost of crossing its Tacony-Palmyra and Burlington-Bristol Bridges.
The increases would be the first in 15 years.
Drivers pay only when they're heading to Pennsylvania. The cash-payment toll for cars would double to $4. But E-ZPass users would get a break, paying $3 for each west-bound trip. Prices would increase more for trucks and RVs.
Bride commissioners say the hikes are needed to pay for work on the bridges, including painting both of them and replacing the deck on the Burlington-Bristol span.
Tolls on four other Philadelphia-area bridges are $5.
