Joe Jackson’s chart success began in 1979 with “Is She Really Going Out With Him?”, a song most every guy could relate to, that hit #21 on the Billboard Hot 100. British by birth, he moved to New York City in 1982 and scored his biggest hit that year with “Steppin’ Out” which went all the way to #6.

The song I requested of Big Joe was the follow up to that song, “Breaking Us In Two” which was released early in 1983. He had one more top twenty hit, “You Can’t Get What You Want (Till You Know What You Want)”, and then moved into a different musical direction, recording both jazz and classical music. One final note: if you’re a smoker, Joe Jackson is your man, as he has become something of a crusader against smoking bans (and reportedly left New York for Berlin so he could smoke in his apartment). If you’re wondering, no, Big Joe didn’t play it.
