The Democratic mayor of Newark is now running for U.S. Senate in New Jersey. His campaign released 15 years of his tax returns Friday.

Booker made more than $400,000 from giving speeches in 2011, and nearly $350,000 last year.

Booker saw his income skyrocket from about $40,000 when he was a Newark city councilor in 1998 to $472,571 last year. 2011 was especially lucrative for him; he made more than $700,000.

Booker also has received hefty payouts from a law firm he helped found. He left the firm when he became mayor in 2006, and he has made $688,500 from it since.

The returns show Booker has few assets, and has made about $100,000 on stock sales.
