PLUMSTED —Police are investigating how a pipe bomb wound up in an Ocean County mailbox.

The State Police bomb squad concluded the device found inside a mailbox on Brookwood Drive in Plumsted had already partially detonated, and they were able to make it safe, according to Plumsted Police. They did not say how the bomb was discovered or give a street number.

No injuries were reported as a result of the explosion.

Brookwood Drive  is located off Route 528 in a rural, heavily wooded area.

Plumsted Police asked anyone with information about the incident to call 609-758-7185.
