Body of missing swimmer recovered at Sandy Hook
SANDY HOOK (AP) — Officials have positively identified the body of a swimmer who disappeared off Sandy Hook that has been found in the surf.
Gateway Recreation Area spokeswoman Daphne Yun said the body of 25-year-old Andros Vega-Pena, of Red Bank, was found Friday.
She says a fisherman spotted the body between beaches C and B around 6 a.m. Friday. That's near where Vega-Pena disappeared while swimming around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Lifeguards had gone off duty at 6 p.m.
Yun says the National Park Service is saddened by the man's death and thanks those who helped with the rescue and recovery effort.
