Body Of North Jersey Man Pulled From Creek In Ala.
Officials say rescue workers in north Alabama have recovered the body of a New Jersey man who jumped into a creek to try to save his daughter.
The TimesDaily newspaper reports that rescue workers on Tuesday found the body of 37-year-old Roger Jamad Hayes. Officials and witnesses say Hayes drowned after a strong undertow pulled him under just after 5 p.m. Monday.
His 13-year-old daughter made it out of the creek safely.
His mother told the newspaper Hayes took three of his daughters to the Colbert Steam Plant to show them where he and his grandfather used to fish. His mother said the 13-year-old apparently fell in the water and yelled for help.
Authorities say Hayes' body was found about a mile from where he entered the creek.
