Lifeguards pulled the body of a Paterson teen from the ocean near Pier Village in Long Branch on Saturday afternoon.

Authorities on the beach confirmed to Townsquare Media the body was that of 17-year-old Rudy Mena.

Mena went missing while swimming in the ocean on Sunday night and an 88 square nautical mile by multiple agencies was quickly launched. Authorities suspended the search for Mena earlier this week after rescue efforts proved unsuccessful.

A crowd of stunned onlookers gathered around the scene on Saturday as Mena's body was dragged to shore by four lifeguards. Police at the scene cleared the scene of bystanders shortly after the body was brought ashore.
