I'm a huge fan of Boardwalk Empire, and I did not see that series ending coming. Note: spoilers ahead!

As I wrote in an e-mail to a friend titled “Over and 6 feet Under,” I predicted Eli, Mabel, and Narcisse buying the farm with Margaret the longshot.

Even as the episode played out, it never occurred to me that Nucky would be shot - his character is based on Nucky Johhnson, who lived until 1968. Then again,  Nucky Thompson is a fictional character who is very different from the real Nucky Johnson.

Boardwalk Empire started off similar to the Sopranos - both shows follow a crooked central character who is attempting to balance his job and family life.

As both series goes on, they stray away from family, and head more into the mob aspect of things. The first shocker for me in Boardwalk Empire was when Nucky shot Jimmy, whom he loved like a son.

In the end, Jimmy’s son (who was raised by Gramdma Gillian) avenges his father’s murder by shooting Nucky as he’s remembering trading her life away for a Sherrif’s badge.

I’m really going to miss Boardwalk Empire. There aren’t a lot of gangster shows that show a compassionate side of Al Capone like this one did. This was shown when Al said goodbye to his son before going away for tax evasion. I do like the way the show dedicated the last season to bringing everything full circle, and tying up all the loose ends. In fact, now that prohibition is over, let's have a toast to Nucky Thompson. May he rest in peace - if in fact, he’s really dead.

What did you think of the final episode of Boardwalk Empire?.
