On Tuesday, Pascrell easily defeated Republican Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, a onetime spiritual adviser to Michael Jackson.

The heavily Democratic district includes parts of Bergen and Passaic counties. It was redrawn after the 2010 census.

The race was thrust into the national spotlight after reports that casino mogul Sheldon Adelson donated $1 million to a super PAC affiliated with Boteach.

Pascrell was elected to Congress in 1996. His campaign focused on issues including foreclosures and veterans.

Boteach wrote the book "Kosher Sex" and appeared on a reality TV show. He wanted to provide tax breaks for businesses that closed on their religious day of rest and make marriage counseling tax-deductible.
