This weekend New Jerseyans will be getting "freezin' for a reason" in Seaside Heights for the 24th annual Polar Bear Plunge to benefit Special Olympics NJ. Our very own Big Joe Henry, the host of one of the biggest events in NJ, called in this morning to give us a sneak preview.

It's an amazing event to be a part of, where last year, they raised a record $1.6 million dollars. Big Joe credits that amazing total to the hard work of our NJ police officers and the PBA unions who band together to raise the money.

Meteorologist Dan Zarrow, earlier in the morning had said that one of the most enjoyable parts of the plunge is watching half the crowd running out of the frigid waters while the other half is still trying to get in. "It really is exciting and everybody can't wait to get in but they can't wait to get out," Big Joe joked. As Big Joe noted, you see a little bit of everything during the even, people in costumes, men wearing coconut bras but it is all for a good cause.

To show our support for Big Joe and all his effort that he puts forth beyond just the broadcast to help the NJSPBA raise money for Special Olympics NJ, we made Joe this week's #BlueFriday honoree. Joe's friendships, partnerships and connections to law enforcement are second to none. "Our law enforcement community here in NJ have a tough job enough. For them to step aside and to raise big money and to take the time and really put their effort into this is just a phenomenal thing," Big Joe stated.

You can join Big Joe Henry for the live broadcast starting at 10am over at the Spicy Cantina and take the plunge at 1p.m. It's going to be a great NJ event that you won't want to miss!
