Let the games begin! Tonight we broadcasted live from the 2017 Special Olympics NJ Summer Games Opening Ceremony. In the video, athlete Ashley Weber lights the cauldron signaling the official start of the 2017 Special Olympics NJ Summer Games.

"Thanks as always to Law Enforcement & all supporters of SONJ for making this all possible," Big Joe said at the start of the event. "Good luck to all the athletes in this year's games."

The mission of the Special Olympics is “to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community”.
