Bergen County Seeks Vote on Police Merger
The Bergen County freeholder board has approved a referendum on whether to merge the county police with
the sheriff's department.
The Record of Woodland Park reports that the board voted 4-2 Friday to put the question on the November 6 ballot in a non-binding referendum.
They also approved an ordinance that would dissolve the Bergen County police. That ordinance also passed by a 4-2 vote.
Some support the idea of consolidating the departments, which cover similar territory.
Others, including some police union members, oppose it.
