Beaten Woman, 94, Dies; Granddaughter Held on Charges
Mary Francis Driscol, 94, said by authorities to have been beaten by her granddaughter, died Saturday morning at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's office.
The granddaughter, Katherine Schubert, 37, was arrested last Sunday on aggravated assault charges, which will stand pending an autopsy, according to a Twitter post from Al Della Fave, spokesman for the prosecutor's office.
Bail was set at $150,000 cash for the 37-year old Schubert who shared the home on Courtshire Drive with Driscol.
Prosecutors said Schubert's mother Michele Schubert went to the home last Sunday after she was unable to contact her daughter or mother for two days. When she entered the home with a friend of her daughter's, they found Schubert "highly intoxicated" and the grandmother slumped over a bed in her bedroom.
The elderly woman had suffered multiple injuries, including a brain bleed, blood shot eyes and multiple bruising and lacerations.
Della Fave says no motive has yet been established for the assault and the Prosecutor's Office investigation is ongoing.
