Bear Kills Dog Outside Vernon Home, Authorities Say

Environmental officials say a black bear killed a dog that had chased after the bruin outside a northern New Jersey home.

The attack occurred around 10 a.m. Tuesday in Vernon Township. The bear had fled the scene by the time police arrived.

Authorities say the dog, a Husky, was the aggressor. The say residents have no need to be concerned about the bear, who was not tagged.
