A bear attack is being blamed for injuries to a donkey in Morris County.

Chester Township Police in a statement to the Mendham-Chester Patch said the donkey was found Saturday morning in the bottom of an in-ground pool on Cherry Tree Lane with injuries to its chest and hind quarters.

A veterinarian who treated the donkey's injuries said it was able to walk back to its yard on its own.

The donkey's owner heard a noise on Friday night but didn't think it was out of the ordinary, according to the report. The next morning, he noticed the donkey was missing and called police, who found the donkey in the pool, the report said.
