New Jersey Fast Traffic's Bernie Wagenblast wasn't clear as to the reason the Port Authority changed the work schedule but did not think it was cold weather related  as crews worked through the overnight. The bridge closed as schedule at midnight on Friday night but reopened around 8 a.m. on Saturday according to Wagenblast.

The Port Authority did not tweet an announcement or issue a press release . The bridge was originally to be closed in directions until midnight Saturday night.

Crews were scheduled to deliver and position strengthening plates and continue to erect the bridge's towers during the shutdown which is part of a $1.3 billion project to raise the roadway to give larger ships access to New York and New Jersey ports. The new bridge roadway will have wider lanes and a median.
