A major bridge in the New York metropolitan area has reopened nearly seven hours after a hit-and-run accident injured two.Port Authority police spokesman Al Della Fave says a sports utility vehicle crossed the center line and hit a car on the Bayonne Bridge around 4 a.m. Friday.

Della Fave says the driver of the SUV jumped into a pickup that had stopped to help and drove off into New York.

The vehicle was found abandoned in Staten Island. There's been no sign of the driver.

Della Fave says a man and a woman in the car suffered serious lacerations.

The Bayonne Bridge connects Bayonne with Staten Island, N.Y.
