Barbara Grant Wants to Own Chickens as Pets, Should Mantua Allow it? Jersey Jury Poll

A chicken is many things to many people, mostly in various dishes, but to Barbara Grant in Mantua Township a chicken would make a great pet. In fact we’re talking about 5 hens.

Grant makes a great case as far as providing chickens providing fresh eggs and I did not know that they also provide great fertilizer and eat ticks, slugs and other little creepy crawlies. The only problem, since chickens are considered livestock, is the township’s ordinance that only allows for chickens on lots of 5 acres or larger. Grant has an online petition which she plans to take to the township committee .
