Lakewood police say 48-year-old Donald Van Arsdale of Jackson was arrested Tuesday afternoon, shortly after he tried to make off with roughly $2,000 from a Hudson City Savings Bank branch. He fled the bank on foot after realizing he didn't have his keys, but was captured a short time later after police spotted him a few blocks away.

Authorities say Van Arsdale dropped the money and some personal belongings when he fled from police. All the money and evidence he allegedly left behind was eventually recovered by investigators.

The vehicle that authorities believe Van Arsdale was driving was found in the bank parking lot. The keys to the vehicle were found inside the bank building, but further details were not disclosed.

Besides Tuesday's robbery, Van Arsdale also was charged with the Feb. 22 robbery of a TD Bank branch in Lakewood. He was being held on $130,000 cash bail overall, and it was not known Wednesday if he has retained an attorney.

No injuries were reported in Tuesday's robbery.
